A good basic reference with some practice problems to get comfortable using the formulas provided. Great size to keep in your flight kit as a reference. I would recommend this to the pilot that is just starting out for basic concepts and rules of thumb. The USAF puts out a reference that goes into more detail (and you can get online for free) that I found more helpful in my flying as an airline pilot.
This book was recommended to me as part of an airline prep course. It does have a lot of useful equations for both GA and airline pilots, but I never find myself using them. All the basics are contained in here (VDP, TOD, etc.) but I already knew those and I've forgotten many of the other equations from this book due to lack of use.I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless you really had a passion for math and calculating non-essential things in flight.
but it doesn't. I found it useful but, for in flight quick math, only a few things jumped out
A good review before checkrides as well as a great way to improve your pilot knowledgebase. I would highly recommend this book whether your working on your private pilot certification or a CFI.
a little light on the content but does have some things of value in it I can use - in the information age, a book has to do better than this to earn a spot on a bookshelf - most of this can be found online
Having gone through the Private and Commercial cylabus I realised how quickly one forgets the all-important calculations... This guide keeps you current and your thoughts aligned without having to remember all the complicated match exactly
Lots of neat rules of thumb and mental math exercises. I'd like to have seen SOMETHING about interpolation and landing distance charts, especially from this book. I felt like it stopped short and covered too much grade school math.
Maybe useful for some - but mostly common sense stuff.
