It is a great idea to have kindle books with works of your favorite painters. However, the execution is quite poor. The quality of images is quite low - you could find better quality and better resolution images online, for example in Wikipedia. So, Kindle's great functionality in image zooming is wasted. The captions are frequently misplaced with the caption from the previous image appearing above the painting. There is no table of contents. Many accented symbols are simply missed in processing.So, it is just amazing how many flaws this digital book has. I hope, Amazon will continue this trend but will offer a much better quality. I originally wanted to purchase a dozen of books from this series, but will now wait until the quality issues are fixed.
Of course a lot of beauty is lost in these reproductions as they are small (compared to the original paintings) and not the best resolution. This is no fault of the publisher but just the process of minimizing a painting to fit into a small book. However, the images fit the Kindle Fire 8 .9 quite well.Regardless, it is a lovely collection of bouguereau's works. He was a prolific painter and did over 800 paintings in his lifetime. Through this book, you get a flavor of bouguereau's sensitivity and realism.I do recommend going to a museum to see his paintings in person to see the full genius of bouguereau. But if you are not able to see his works in person, this book is a nice substitute.
This is a handy catalog of paintings, perhaps in chronological order. One star off because it is not entirely clear from the description that, other that titles for each painting, there is no further background text. Dates are missing for a number of paintings and the last one, "Young Bohemians", appears to be missing.Another star off because the images look look a little fuzzy on a generation 2 iPad screen and get really mushy if you try to zoom in on detail, even on a phone screen.So, it is nice to have a phone slideshow of work by Bougereau, I'm a little disappointed by the execution.
Excellent presentation of paintings,though the titles are incorrect. I enjoyed seeing his work in the e book. Now I'd love to see his biography in an ebook also
I enjoy looking at the paintings on the iPad, and I also find them instructive.I paint as a hobby, and like many others I struggle with getting skin tones right. This guy really knew how to paint skin (and everything else, really). Looking in detail at the features, skin tones, compositions, and handling of value differences is inspirational and helpful. His skills are exceptional...I would love to paint like that.
The captions were not accurate in many paintings I would still purchase the collections in spite of these inaccuracies. Very nice---
Beautiful but better as real book than Kindle!
The artwork is gorgeous and done in a way that is sensual and erotic without be pornographic. I am jealous of the models and wish I were one of the models to have had such great art done of them. It is appreciated.
