Wow, what a great book. Forget about page counts. There is ZERO fluff or filler in this book. I read it in 24 hours which I almost never do with a non-fiction book. Jim does an awesome job laying out his proven to work methods to produce like a full-time author while working a day job and without leaving your family in the lurch. Highly recommended reading for all authors -- even ones who are already full-time authors will benefit. The tips, tactics, and techniques Jim shares can be used by any author to optimize their own methods. If you're serious about becoming a full-time author, then you owe it to yourself to read this book.
The narration of this book was good and lively.The advice that this book provide you might have heard in other places with the exception to the social media info and how to do 4 books a year. the shortest summation of the book is "Sit down make a plan to fit your life, stuck to it and throw in this formula and you can kick out 3 to 4 books a year." but as with any good advice it was a much needed reminder if the advice you have to just do it so do it!I would recommend the book and I plan on getting the social media guide as that is the biggest tool writers need in this now digital age.
Heard Jim on a podcast and was immediately intrigued. As a fellow aspiring author with a full-time job and a family, I was desperate to hear how someone was managing to put out four books a year without professional or familial sacrifice. I got through this quickly, picked up a bunch of good tips and was entertained to boot. Note: if you're not cool with self-discipline, this might not be the book (or potential career) for you.
This book is chock full of concrete specific advice from a seasoned author. I have rarely come across so many useful pieces of advice in one place, especially for the indie author. I got it as an audiobook and enjoyed the teaching-with-humor approach immensely. But I wanted to be able to flip through it and refer back to the many, many specific helpful tips he gives on everything from scheduling, to drafting strategies, to software tools, and more. I bought it in paperback too. Best investment in my own writing yet!Note: I got the audiobook for free in exchange for an honest review. I very happily bought the paperback after that. :)
Great tips and encouragement for anyone who feels they are "too busy" to write. I'm not sure I fully support the long term lifestyle implications of trying to turn yourself into "a perpetual motion fiction machine" but if you're determined to fit more writing into your day, this is an excellent read.
I loved this book because it gave me step-by-step instruction on writing four novels a year, while still having a life other than writing all the time. The book was very informative and the content was well-organized. Jim Haskett has self-published a lot of novels, enough to know what works for him and likely will work for others. I highly recommend The Juggling Author to any novelist needing a plan of action.
Relateable writing style, no filler, and actionable steps to creating a veritable book production line. Quite inspiring, I just hope I can put it all into practice.
