I read through this whole book and I couldn't believe that this kind of book actually got self-published, and that people are leaving good reviews. First, it was written with a rushed, lazy sort of tone. And second, though the author doesn't outright condone doing illegal things, one of their "freebies" was downloading torrent files. Torrents themselves aren't bad, but most people (yes, be honest) use them to illegally download software, music, movies, and other copyrighted, paid products. Using torrents as a "freebie" and then justifying it by saying, "well, don't be a cheapskate. Leave a review for the item(s)," was appalling to me. Literally, at Loc 86 under "Movies, albums, and PDF books," the author writes, "For those of you not in America, another option is Kickass Torrents. Whether it's a PDF version of a book or magazine you're after, or a movie, TV series, or album, this is the place to go for your free downloads." Then they go on to say, "... Kickass Torrents has had to change it's address several times due to some... errr... unhappy companies and people." How I read this, the author is saying it's okay to rip Hulu if you're in another coutnry then use a Torrent site to illegally download materials only available legally through said Hulu for Americans.Even if my intepretation is wrong, and even if some of the other "freebies" have some merit, this alone was the end of it for me. This book should be removed from Amazon.
If you are looking for a very practical guide for finding free things online this is it! The author obviously took the time to compile a good sized list of online resources where consumers can get goods or services for free. One thing I appreciate is that the author was very honest about the different sites and the types of actions you might need to take to get free items. It's a practical look at obtaining free things online.
Great book. I like that he included online opportunities to get free services, etc. He goes into great detail about how to reach your goals of obtaining free stuff and how to work around obstacles. The main reason businesses give things away is for the word of mouth advertising. If you like what you get, you will buy from them, as well as, telling friends and family about their product(s) which, in turn, they will probably buy from them, too. Unless you've been hiding under a rock, you already know that places give out freebies on your birthday and that you can free downloads for apps. However, there are a few websites listed that I will try, so with that and the 99¢ price tag, I don't feel as if I wasted any money or time.UPDATE: After logging into some (most) of the links, this book is outdated. Don't bother. I don't mind spending 99¢, but the time I spent was a complete waste.
This book was a nice short reference. The book starts off telling you things that are actually illegal . Some of the things written down were just common knowledge that you can get things at restaurants on your birthday by showing your drivers license or ID. This book was free so I did get what I paid for which is just a quick reference .
I love anything free... free books, free music ...just about anything free. As a true freebie hunter, I subscribe to a few freebie sites and check them frequently to see what's new and free out there. The holiday season is upon us and I am especially interested in freebie deals. This book provides a list of great free or nearly free deals. Yes, I'm one of those who spends downtime at work on the Internet. Yes, most of that time is looking for free and discounted stuff. What could be better than getting paid for finding deals. I knew about Hulu, Amazon free kindle and music downloads, Startsampling and places to get free magazines, but who knew there were people on the Internet offering free boats! I was also surprised to see actual electronics like parts for semiconductors being offered. My only problem with the restaurant listing was the ebook didn't tell you ALMOST every one requires you to eat in. With my husband being disabled, this is not one of our luxuries.
I love this book,it will guide you how to get Free things (such as Antivirus software, Smartphone apps, Fast food, etc.) without having start a blog or write reviews for a living. There are many website I never know and it’s great when you can get the link by one click to hyperlink in this book, example: If you’d prefer a free meal without first having to actually buy one, check out TACO BELL… So cool, right!
