Scrap Republic is a very good book for those who have a lot of scraps left over from quilt projects, which I do. The first few pages were inspiring to assemble and size, workable pieces of fabric. Most quilts in book are 30"x30" which gave me great ideas especially for baby quilts. There are patterns of each that are for the "Scrapless", Those of you who have not accumulated scraps. All patterns are pretty and though detailed, they are easy, even for a confident beginner. If you don't prefer a colorful quilt, then just change it up with your colors, because the quilts in this book are very colorful!
Great! Emily provides just the right amount of structure, allowing plenty of room for personal artistic expression. She suggests other ways of assembling the blocks that would completely change the appearance of the quilt. I am thrilled with this book and her ideas.I saw one of her quilts on Pinterest and the colors and pattern fascinated me. I tracked it down and ordered the book that night. It arrived 2 days later (yay for Amazon Prime!). I took the next day off work because I couldn't wait to start.I believe I'll make several of these quilts over the years.
Bought this book for just one of the patterns and was surprised at how many more I want to make!
I liked this book from the first page. Although some of the ways of using scraps I had seen before the author has presented them in a way that makes all projects in this book achievable. This book will appeal to all lovers of quilting whether you like the traditional or you are a modern quilter. Emily starts the reader with ways of organising your scraps, trying different types of blocks through to how to quilt and bind your project. It is easy to see the author has had a background in fine art with the way she shows the reader how to use colour and contrast. I perfect book for the quilters library that I know I will refer to often.
Really useful ideas!
I like this book very much. It is a quilt project book containing 8 projects with some basic technique instructions. Ms. Cier gives instructions for making the projects from your own scraps and also from yardage in case you don't have a stash of scraps. The quilts in this book are very modern, colorful and scrappy. Some of the quilts in this book can be tackled by a beginner quilter, but others would require knowledge of techniques beyond the scope of this book, such as different methods of applique. There are lots of books out there that will tell you what to do with your scraps. While this one doesn't break new ground, it is mostly focused on projects, and those projects are GORGEOUS. It is very inspiring, the author's color and design sense is great. And with only a handful of projects in the book, it doesn't become another "wishing" book, that overwhelms you with techniques and theory. Just fun, pretty, practical stash-busters.
Emily has great ideas for color use and interesting design ideas. I was really inspired reading this book. As an art quilter, I found this book very valuable for ideas and technique.
